Spring Activities in Ketchum

While spring snowfall always seems to tell a different story, the clock is indeed ticking on the Winter 2019/2020 Ski Season. In fact, the first day of spring will be here before we know it and we’re willing to bet there are still boxes un-checked on your winter to-do list. So spring into Ketchum and make the most of the remainder of the ski season before the clock runs out this April!

Here’s a look at some of the activities and events we’re looking forward to this spring:

Sun Valley Film Festival
The Sun Valley Film Festival returns March 18-22, 2020! Be a part of the legacy of storytellers, artists, actors and filmmakers that have defined Sun Valley’s rich cinematic history. View exclusive screenings, engage in Q&As with working filmmakers and new up-and-comers, participate in screenwriting labs and more. Celebrate the wonder of film on this magical weekend in March.

Kids Ski Free
From February 24th through the end of the winter 2019-2020 ski season, kids 12 and under can ski for free, with the purchase of an adult lift ticket, when you stay at least 2 nights here at Tamarack Lodge! One child lift ticket per parent lift ticket purchased, two children maximum per family. The child will receive a lift ticket for the same number of days of lifts the parent has purchased.

Explore the Backcountry
Sun Valley is a gateway to endless, powder-filled backcountry terrain with awe-inspiring views. Accessible by helicopter, hut systems, snowmobiles, or by human powered means, you will revel in our expansive mountain ranges. Options close to town include Durance Peak, the Boulders, and Galena Summit. The Boulders include areas like Mushroom Bowl and Gladiator, which require a longer ascent, but reward those willing to make the trek with phenomenal views and long descents.

Full Moon Dinner
Relax and enjoy an evening out at this four-course dinner at Galena Lodge. Bring your skis or snowshoes and settle in for a delicious meal before heading out for a cross country ski or snowshoe trip beneath the full moon. These events tend to sell out quickly, so reserve your space early!

At Home on the River
Ketchum and Sun Valley are well known as a winter destination, but they are also home to incredible fly-fishing opportunities year-round. With local access to miles of riffle-run-pool trout fishing in the Big Wood River and the "crown jewel" of spring creeks in the Rockies, anglers feel at home here on the rivers.

Gallery Walks
The Sun Valley Gallery Association hosts seven gallery walks per year. These eagerly anticipated events are free and open to the public and include through-provoking exhibitions, wine, artist meet-and-greets and more!

Music at The Mint
The Mint, in nearby Hailey, ID, is a community gathering place that has become a go-to for locals and visitors alike. Don’t miss performances by the Futurebirds, John Craigie, G. Love & Special Sauce and more!

Janss Pro-Am Classic
Held in memory of former Sun Valley Company owner, Bill Janss, the Janss Pro-Am Classic has long held the reputation as the “best party on snow.” Skiers and riders of all abilities join forces with a pro to form a team of six that will go head-to-head in a dual giant slalom on Bald Mountain. Each Janss Pro-Am Classic event has a theme and all teams are encouraged to dress accordingly! Prizes are awarded for best costume, fastest pros, fastest amateurs, fastest team, best crash and more.

Cold Bowl Pond Skim
Celebrate closing weekend at Dollar Mountain with the Cold Bowl Pond Skim. Featuring an outdoor BBQ, live music, prizes, giveaways, and of course, a good old-fashioned spring pond skim.

Music at MOA
We Banjo 3, one of the best live acts to come out of Ireland in recent years, comes to the Sun Valley Museum of Art this March! This multi-award-winning supergroup commands the stage with the power of the fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo. These two sets of brothers perform with power, subtlety, emotion and intelligence to craft a performance you won’t want to miss.

Quaffing Championships
Love beer? Try your hand at the Annual Sawtooth Regional Gelande Quaffing Championships! This fun annual event is our way of celebrating the mountain lifestyle we love so much, while throwing a few beers down a table to raise a little money!
