Opening Day 2019/2020

November 12, 2019
Winter in Sun Valley
It's one of our favorite times of the year! Ketchum and Sun Valley are buzzing with excitement for the 2019/2020 ski and snowboard season, beginning next week. This year Bald Mountain is scheduled to open on November 28, 2019 - Thanksgiving Day.

WHAT'S NEW

Bald Mountain Expansion & Cold Springs Chairlift Replacement
A special place to glide down a wide-open bowl, navigate through trees, and descend deep chutes. The Bald Mountain Expansion, which began in 2018, will increase the skiable terrain at Sun Valley Resort by over 380 acres once the project is complete, in the Fall of 2020. Upcoming projects include replacing the resort’s oldest chairlift, Cold Springs (#4), with a new high-speed detachable lift, providing a seamless transition to The Roundhouse restaurant, the Roundhouse Express Gondola, and Christmas (#3) chairlift. For those who prefer groomers and gradual pitches, the Lower Broadway run is being extended, lined with highly efficient snowmaking guns! Learn More

The Healthy Forests Initiative
Sun Valley Resort continues their partnership with the United States Forest Service for the Healthy Forests Initiative this winter. The initiative improves the health of the forest on Baldy by clearing overstocked vegetation and trees and as a great sidelight, opens up more places to play in the snow. Overall, this initiative has added 81 acres of additional terrain to the mountain, while reducing hazards and destructive insects.

Warm Springs Day Lodge
Due to a tragic fire in April of 2018, Sun Valley Resort has recreated and improved the Warm Springs Day Lodge. From an upgraded food court featuring a state-of-the-art kitchen, expanded indoor seating, and new coffee offerings at the Konditorei bakery & café, to a revamped rental and retail space with 16-foot high definition television and private ski lockers, the new Warm Springs Lodge continues the Sun Valley legacy of world-class construction and craftsmanship. Don’t miss the new granite-top bar, perched under the sunny western-facing window, with stunning views of Lower Warm Springs. Serving winter warmers like Hot Buttered Bourbon, pitchers of craft beer, and the famous "Shot Ski," it's the perfect place to kick back for an après drink. Learn More

Enhanced Air Service
